According to ESPN, Manchester United have made Marcus Rashford’s dedication to a new deal this summer their top priority despite the 24-year-old’s declining form. The forward has struggled to put his best foot forward since returning after a two-month layoff with a shoulder injury.
After a fairly impressive 2020/21 season, Marcus Rashford took a few months off after Euro 2020 to deal with a recurring shoulder injury. However, that meant the 24-year-old would miss the start of the 2021/22 season and although Rashford has since made his comeback, things haven’t quite worked out for him. The forward has struggled enormously for form, scoring just three goals in all competitions for Manchester United.
Still, with eighteen months left on his current contract, ESPN reported that Manchester United have made a new contract for Rashford a priority this summer. The club wishes not to repeat Paul pogba and Jesse Lingard situations, and therefore try to avoid this at the pass. The report said the 24-year-old is keen to re-sign with his childhood club and United are confident he can come to a deal with him.
However, ESPN further reported that the Red Devils are also not concerned about Rashford’s lack of form as they believe he is still recovering from his surgery. The forward played most of last season with a long-standing shoulder injury that forced corrective surgery over the summer, and therefore has yet to regain his best form.
