Manchester United say Mason Greenwood’s status is ‘unchanged’ and speculation on social media about his reinstatement is not true
Manchester United have clarified that there have been no changes to Mason Greenwood’s status at the club.
The 21-year-old was trending on social media after some fans pointed out his profile was still visible on the club’s website, leading to speculation he could be reinstated.
Greenwood was suspended from playing or training by United after the striker was arrested by police in January in connection with the alleged rape and assault of a young woman.
He was later released on bail and a statement from the club at the time said he would not be available for the club until further notice.
United responded to the claims on social media saying they were untrue.
“There has been no change in Mason’s status,” the club said.
“We removed his profile from the club app shortly after he retired from the squad in January.

“This was to remove Mason from interactive elements of the app such as team predictions etc.
“However, his profile has never been removed from the website as he remains a Manchester United player, although he is not currently part of the squad while the legal proceedings unfold.”
