Manchester United reportedly want Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong to replace Paul Pogba if the Frenchman decides to leave.
Pogba’s contract expires at the end of the season and there are currently no signs of any new terms of agreement, with the midfielder supposedly asking the club for double his salary of £ 290,000 per week.
The 28-year-old could be free to negotiate pre-contractual deals with foreign clubs in January, amid ties to Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain as United stand to lose their most expensive player of all time.
However, with question marks over his consistency and constant speculation about his future, fueled by Agent Mino Raiola, it is understood that the Red Devils are already considering living without Pogba.
And according to The Independent, Dutch star De Jong could be his replacement at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the most promising young players in football at Ajax, alongside Donny van de Beek, who can now no longer play for United.

De Jong, meanwhile, has been a regular Barca holder since his £ 65million transfer from Ajax in 2019, but the Catalans have declined in those years and currently find themselves in debt of £ 1billion. .
Despite signing De Jong with vision to place the Dutchman at the center of the club’s future, it is now believed that the Spanish giants would accept a £ 75million offer for the highly rated midfielder, in order to lift funds.
United, however, could face competition for De Jong from local rivals and Premier League champions Man City.
Pep Guardiola’s side have been linked with the Barca man, with rumors of a possible swap deal involving Raheem Sterling, although City have since dismissed such reports.
