Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is simply not at the managerial level of Thomas Tuchel, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola and the Manchester United boss should be sacked if the club is to progress.
This is the view of a Red Devils fan, who joined talkSPORT on Wednesday and said the United squad are just as talented as their rivals but lack competent leadership – as evidenced by their loss. against the Young Boys in the Champions League.
A friendly-looking squad started with the Red Devils’ easiest away game, but Solskjaer’s stammering side arrived in Switzerland on Tuesday night.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring at Stadion Wankdorf, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s red card in the 35th minute put United on the back foot and two goals from the hosts in the second half turned the game around.
The shocking result burst the bubble of Ronaldo’s glorious comeback.
And after waking up early in the season, a United fan believes Solskjaer must leave if the silverware is to be brought to Old Trafford this season.
“I’m probably going to have a lot of stick for this, but do I think he’s the manager to take us to the next level?” No, I don’t think it is, ”he told talkSPORT Breakfast.
“If you look at some of his tactical decisions, he gets sloppy at times.
“People will say he beat Klopp, he beat Pep, etc.
“This was seen last night with Jesse Lingard and Ronaldo. For me he should’ve called on Greenwood to keep them [Young Boys] on the rear foot.
“We have a fantastic team which is tied with Liverpool, City and Chelsea, but if you look at the managers of these other teams – Liverpool have one of the best in the world at Klopp, Guardiola is amazing and then Chelsea have Thomas Tuchel, that I wanted at United.
“Ole is not on par with them tactically.”
He added: “Chelsea did the right thing with Lampard. He was a club legend, but he couldn’t get the best of them.
“Watch them now with Tuchel, the level he takes them because of his tactical sense and level.
“I want Ole to walk us through this, but I don’t see him taking us to the next level.
“I would love to see him move and stay with the club to keep that DNA and that philosophy, but bring in a more experienced tactical manager to take us to the next level.”
