Manchester United had an approach for Mauricio Pochettino blocked by Paris Saint-Germain, we learned.
Pochettino has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stepped down as manager.
The Sun report that the French club have been angered by reports that the Argentine is desperate to quit mid-season, which means Man United have been forced to put these plans on hold.
Former Tottenham boss Pochettino addressed the reports at a press conference on Tuesday.
“I am focused on football,” he said ahead of PSG’s Champions League game with Manchester City on Wednesday.
“I am not a child, I am not a child. I have spent my whole life playing football. We are in a business that the rumors are out there, I understand that.
“This is the world we live in. I am so happy at Paris Saint-Germain. We are so focused on trying to achieve the best possible results. “
“I am happy in Paris. I know the city well both as a player and a coach, I have always experienced this type of situation. Things happen and it’s not my responsibility. What I’m going to say if you ask me is that I’m happy in Paris.
Michael Carrick has been appointed on a temporary basis, overseeing Man United’s 2-0 win at Villarreal in the Champions League.
He is likely to remain at the helm for their Premier League clash at Chelsea on Sunday.
The club have revealed that they are looking to hire an interim boss until the end of the season, but it is understood that they would now prefer to secure a permanent successor to Solskjaer.
However, those plans appear to have run into a problem, with PSG keen to retain their manager.
