Manchester United fans’ ‘delusional’ #EmptyOldTrafford protest doomed by Trevor Sinclair due to ‘tourist fans’ amid Glazer family unrest

Trevor Sinclair thinks Manchester United fans are “delusional” that the #EmptyOldTrafford initiative will impact the club’s owners.

Fans are at their wits end with the Glazer family ownership of the club which has seen the American tycoons leave the debt-ridden club while the playing team continues to look like a shell of themselves.

Manchester United owners are not popular figures among supporters

A poor start to the Premier League under Erik ten Hag only added to that unease, with a loss to Brighton followed by a 4-0 loss to Brentford last weekend leaving the Red Devils bottom of the table.

Since the start of the new campaign, supporters have plotted a new way to show their displeasure with the way the club is being run, with #EmptyOldTrafford being the plan for fans to boycott the critical clash with rivals Liverpool on Monday , live on talkSPORT.

However, according to Sinclair, the global reach of a club like United means such a protest is doomed.

Speaking on White and Jordan, Sinclair said: “Heard something trending about Manchester United, #EmptyOldTrafford.

“I think the fans are delusional.

“It’s such a touristy fanbase, sorry to use the phrase, but it is.

Ten Hag’s poor performance has further underscored the need for change at the top

“If the normal fans who go to the games don’t go, the tourists will buy those tickets and so it won’t affect anything.

“Like Simon [Jordan] said earlier, it’s not the fans who fund Manchester United, it’s the sponsors, the TV broadcasters and so I don’t know if it’s going to do anything for Manchester United fans.
