Tony Cascarino believes Manchester United is closing the gap between the top Premier League sides.
The Red Devils may have finished second last season, but have yet to win any trophies under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure.
Since his appointment in December 2018, on a provisional basis, Man City have won six trophies, including the Premier League on two occasions.
Liverpool were crowned league champions while also winning the Champions League.
Chelsea also won the European elite competition last season.
United have undoubtedly made improvements and Solskjaer has secured a new contract, which runs until 2024, but a loss in the Europa League final last season has erased his notebook.
The club have spent a lot in the transfer market, with Jadon Sancho their most recent acquisition, and there will be pressure to deliver the silverware.
Former Chelsea striker Cascarino said: “If you think about where City have improved, and Liverpool’s have been quite dramatic under Klopp, Tuchel entering Chelsea made them an exceptional team… when you come a long way, and they (United) were, to see an improvement is a big thing.
“I think United showed their intention to come together last year, do they have enough to cross the line? No, I don’t think they did, but they can get really close to it.
“There has been a marked improvement in their team and in the style of football they play.
“They have a good back four now, I think there is more to come from this midfielder.
“They are an exciting team and they have a very exciting forward line.
“Cavani is a hell of a player. We’re talking about Sancho going to the club and having other great players like Greenwood who can contribute, and Fernandes.
“I think keeping Cavani for another year is a big signing. He does so many good things as a footballer.
“This dynamic of young and old in a team works very well. “
