Man seriously injured after hitting horse on Route 47 in Kane County

KANE COUNTY, Ill. (CBS) – A man is in serious condition after hitting a horse Thursday morning on Route 47.

The sheriff’s office said a deputy was driving south near the Rohrsen Road intersection around 12:40 p.m. when they saw the dead horse on the roadway.

The deputy then located a Dodge Ramm pickup truck on the roadway near the horse. It appears the vehicle struck the horse and then left the road after the impact, police said.

The driver and sole occupant of the Dodge, a 39-year-old man from Hampshire, was airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital with serious injuries.

The horse’s owner told MPs he believed the horse suffered from a medical condition and had escaped from the stable before the accident.

Kane County Drone Team, Pingree Grove Fire/EMS, Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Kane County Emergency Management Office, and LifeNet assisted the Kane County Sheriff’s Office during the accident.

The investigation is ongoing and no tickets have been issued.
