Man killed in downtown Sacramento assault identified as bail bondsman

A man killed in an assault in downtown Sacramento early Monday has been identified as Kevin Brace, 56, police said. Brace was a longtime employee of Greg Padilla Bail Bonds, which is located in the area where the assault took place on I Street. Police said Jacob Mandell, 38, of Sacramento, was arrested on a homicide charge in connection with Brace’s death. Police said they responded to reports of an assault in the 500 block of I Street around 4:15 a.m. Officers and later Sacramento Fire Department personnel took life-saving action on Brace , but he died at the scene. Police said investigators were working to determine a motive for the attack. Anyone with information is asked to call the dispatch center at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-HELP (4357). Mandell is expected in court Wednesday.
