Man City winner Mahrez claims PSG ‘lost their temper and started kicking us’

Manchester City match winner Riyad Mahrez said PSG “lost their temper and started kicking us” late in Tuesday’s Champions League game.

Mahrez scored on either side of half-time in the semi-final second leg, with his second goal seeing City scoring three goals in aggregate and nearly sealing the tie.

As time passed and the game was out of reach, PSG launched a series of tough challenges, with Angel Di Maria sent off to retire to Fernandinho.

What was said?

“It was a very good game. We didn’t start well again – we didn’t have a good first half but we got the goal and we were more comfortable,” said Mahrez. BT Sport.

“We played well in the second half and we could have scored more. They lost their temper and started kicking us and after the red card it was more comfortable.”

Mahrez’s first game came after a long, shiny ball from Ederson started City’s move. On the goal, the Algerian said: “Of course, Ederson’s long pass was expected. We know he is able to put the ball in the other goal and we are working on him all the time and today it worked.”

City chasing a hat-trick

With their cumulative 4-1 victory, City have now reached the first Champions League final in their history.

Having already won the Carabao Cup, Pep Guardiola’s men can also claim the Premier League title if they beat Chelsea on Saturday.

With two trophies almost assured, City will be aiming for a hat-trick in the Champions League final when they face Chelsea or Real Madrid on May 29.

“Everyone has to be strong defensively and that’s why we (reached the final),” added Mahrez.

“We haven’t conceded a lot and I think that’s why we’re in the final. It’s good. We have another game on Saturday. We have to win to be league champions and then we’ll focus on the Champions League final. “
