Man arrested for punching Lexington police officer

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – A man faces multiple charges, including assault, after police say he punched a Lexington police officer.

Police were called to Man O War Place shortly after 7.30am on Tuesday to assist with a medical call. As the officer escorted the man to the ambulance, police say the man, without warning, turned around and struck the officer with a clenched fist. The suspect fled and was later arrested on Waller Avenue.

The man was charged with third degree assault, second degree flight and escape. His name has not been released as he is still being treated in hospital.

The policeman was slightly injured and was evacuated to the scene.
