the Dancing with the stars pro, who shares daily updates from Kiev, took to Instagram on February 28 and revealed that he had recently been arrested.
“Just lots of fighting everywhere,” he said in the video message. “The streets are crazy. At one point I was arrested… but everything is fine, I promise. It was probably the least traumatic moment of this whole affair as far as Ukraine is concerned, but for me, it was just a reality check.”
Later in the video, he shared his next steps. “I’ll try to get out of this,” he said. “I’ll try to start heading towards the border. I have options. My options are unfortunately better than most people’s.”
Maksim, who recently returned to the Eastern European country to serve as a judge over Ukraine dance world series, concluded his message by asking people who have followed his journey not to panic if he “disappears” for a while.
