Major search under way after man ‘falls overboard’ from cruise ship off Kent coast | UK News


A major search operation is underway after a crew member went overboard from a cruise ship off the coast of Kent.

HM Coastguard said it was coordinating searches near Ramsgate after being alerted at around 8.55am today.

A helicopter, a coast guard plane and lifeboats are taking part in the operation.

The crew member was on board the German cruise ship AIDAperla when he went overboard early in the morning of October 22.

AIDA Cruises said in a statement: “The captain and crew of AIDAperla immediately initiated all necessary rescue measures in close coordination with local authorities.

“Search on board confirmed the disappearance of a male crew member.

“The vessel was immediately stopped and returned to the location where the incident was believed to assist in the search.”

The cruise ship would travel from Hamburg in Germany to Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
