Alarms from the center of Mexico and mobile application alerts were present during the early hours of August 12, 2022, at approximately 03:17 in the morning.

According to the National Seismological of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, it was a Earthquake Magnitude 5.3 with epicenter southwest of Huetamo Michoacan.

The Mexican Seismic Alert System warned, for its part, that the cities where the earthquake was perceived and confirmed by the sensors, were Mexico City, Chilpancingo, Acapulco, Morelia and Cuernavaca.

The monitoring app Safe Live Alert added that the sensors showed the earthquake as imperceptible in the cities of Veracruz, Oaxaca and Guadalajara. For his part, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), president of Mexico, revealed through his official Twitter that he received preliminary information of a low Magnitude.

Omar Garcia Harfuchthe secretary of Citizen Security of Mexico City, immediately informed that he would begin the overflight of the helicopters called condors to ensure that everything was in order.

Minutes later he assured that with the help of C5, they concluded that no serious incidents or damage occurred in CDMX; however, by instruction of the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, patrolling in different neighborhoods was increased to continue the verifications.

“The emergency protocols were activated and at the moment the @SGIRPC_CDMX it reports me all the calm and without affectations in the City”, wrote Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo through her official Twitter.

From the National Civil Protection Coordination of the Government of Mexico, it was also confirmed that state and municipal units, as well as the members of the National Emergency Committee (CNE) conduct a preliminary inspection of the area.
