Bigelow Middle School in Newton, Massachusetts hosted racially segregated “safe spaces” for students to “process” verdicts in the Kyle Rittenhouse and Ahmaud Arbery cases.
“Kyle Rittenhouse’s conclusion will likely be seen as yet another unfair reality for many families, staff and students at Bigelow, especially members of our community of color,” read a Dec. 1 letter to students. from Principal Chassity Coston, continuing, “while the Ahmaud Arbery’s conclusion can be seen as a glimpse of hope and justice.
Coston offered three sessions: a peer discussion forum, a case information session, and a separate “Questions and Discussion for Students of Color” session, in which students from racial minority groups are encouraged to “ Get together with other students of color from Bigelow to process and get all of your questions answered about these two cases. White students are apparently not allowed to participate in the discussion.
Coston appears to be a supporter of racial activism and a follower of critical race theory. Speaking at a conference, she claimed that she “values learning, unlearning, safe spaces and unabashed advocacy and support for our students of color” and posted a photo of a slideshow apparently titled ” How Systemic Racism Works: Inequality in Education in an Era of “Equality”.
My first @METCOIncHq Conference! I have enjoyed learning, unlearning, safe spaces, and the unabashed advocacy and support for our students of color.

In another post on Twitter about the district’s “Fall BIPOC” [Black, Indigenous Persons of Color] gathering, “Coston said she” remember[ed] a time [she] feared repercussions for wearing that shirt to work, ”implying that he was brave to wear a shirt that said“ black educators matter ”.
I really enjoyed the fall BIPOC gathering in our district, and I appreciated even more the affirmations of my students, faculty and colleagues who appreciated the unabashed performance in a space where we represent less than 5%. Lord, I thank you daily for the placement and the purpose.

Racial segregation, however, is not a new phenomenon in Newton’s public schools.
As Breitbart News previously reported, Newton North High School Principal Henry Turner responded similarly, offering spaces for racial segregation to Rittenhouse’s verdict. In his justification, Turner appeared to “have a fundamental misunderstanding about the Rittenhouse case, where the 17-year-old shot three white individuals in self-defense, killing two of them, during riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin” , saying: “There is a long history of acquittals like this when whites get away with murdering blacks. Ignoring racism in these situations only reinforces racism. ” [Emphasis added].
Turner also explained that “the division affair will be seen as a big blow especially for blacks and browns who are regularly reminded that their bodies are treated as less than others.”
