LVMH and other luxury brands are raising prices, betting wealthy customers won’t mind

Global luxury goods giants are raising prices for handbags, clothes, shoes and jewelry – and are meeting little resistance from buyers so far.

LVMH Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy SE increased its handbag prices globally this week, in some cases by double-digit percentages, according to Bernstein Research. LVMH declined to comment, but Bernstein, who closely follows the industry proxy, estimates that global price increases for LVMH-branded Louis Vuitton handbags have averaged between 6% and 7%.
