uke Donald has been named European Ryder Cup captain for next year’s competition in Rome after Henrik Stenson was relieved of his duties.
Stenson was named captain on March 15 but the Swede’s tenure lasted just 127 days before he was sacked for breaching his contract by joining the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series.
An official statement at the time read: “In light of the decisions Henrik has made in relation to his personal situation, it has become clear that he will not be able to fulfill certain contractual obligations to Ryder Cup Europe to which he is bound. was engaged before his announcement…and therefore it is not possible for him to continue in the role of captain.
Donald was on the winning side in his four Ryder Cup appearances as a player, including record wins in 2004 and 2006 and ‘Miracle at Medinah’ in 2012, where he won the opening singles match against Bubba Watson.
