Luis Enrique plays down suggestions that next job will be in the Premier League

Luis Enrique has played down suggestions he could head to the Premier League for his next job.

The former Barcelona coach has been out of work since quitting as Spain head coach after the World Cup in Qatar.

Athleticism reported earlier this month that Enrique was one of those considered to replace Antonio Conte who subsequently left the club by mutual agreement this week.

Enrique enjoyed a stellar career in the dugout following a successful playing career and helped guide Barcelona to a treble in 2015.

He has been linked with various clubs but insists he is in no rush to find his next job.

“I would like to work in England, but I don’t see myself there next June,” he told La SER Gijon.

“I would like to join a club where I could do important things, and it is very difficult to find. I wouldn’t go to any Premier League team.”

Enrique’s time with Spain ended after their Round of 16 elimination at the hands of Morocco.

A return to international football is a possibility although he has reservations about ever coaching against his home country.

“I have received offers from national teams but not from clubs,” he added.

“It would have been a very important national team to face them straight away, although it would be very difficult for me to face Spain.

“I don’t know if I’m ready for this”
