Hyo Joo Kim will take a three-stroke lead in the final round of the Lotte LPGA Championship on Saturday after hitting a tied 72.

Hyo Joo Kim rode through a mid-term failure to hold a three-stroke lead heading into the final round of the LPGA Tour’s Lotte Championship as Stephanie Meadow of Northern Ireland entered the fray.

Kim was four ahead at the start of his round at Hoakalei Country Club but saw his advantage reduced to one after bogeys at seventh and 12th, only to birdie on two of his last five and save a level par 72 .

The tap-in birdie at the par-five 18 brought the four-time LPGA Tour winner down to 10 under, extending her cushion on former AIG Women’s Open champion Hinako Shibuno and Monday qualifier Brianna Do.

Speaking about his birdie at the end, Kim said: “It was very important because it was a matter of overpar or not. I had a chance on the 16th hole but missed it so I was a little angry. Now I feel a lot better since I birdied the last hole.”

Do jumped within three of the lead after birdie opening three holes on his way to a five under 67, matching the lowest round of the day, while Shibuno birdied four on his back nine to close a bogey-free 68 and also get to seven under.

“I had a good couple of weeks on the Epson Tour, and the goal was to be Monday this week,” Do said. “I did on Monday. Then the goal was to write a check to get into the reshuffle, and I did. Now he’s trying to make his way to LA [LA Open] next week, just reassessing goals as you go.”
