OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – A mother from Opelousas speaks out after saying her son’s bus driver started walking away when he was stuck in the bus door.
Surveillance video from their home captured the incident.
The video shows what happened when her son, a student at Family Worship Christian Academy, tried to get off the bus last Monday.
You can hear the kids on the school bus screaming in panic as the bus driver begins to drive away from this student’s house, unaware that he was stuck in the glass door.
“I cried. Hearing my child scream for his life and then watching him with the bus roll by, no parent wants to see something like that,” says Lakisha Victorian.
Victorian explains that when her 8-year-old son was getting off the bus, the bus driver accidentally closed the door too soon.
His arms and head became trapped, pinned by the closed door.
“He was stuck. There was no way for him to try to knock on the door. All he could do was scream. That’s the only thing he could do was scream,’ she told News Ten.
The video shows the bus traveling several meters before coming to a stop. Victorian says the bus driver’s excuse didn’t make her feel better.
“She was like, ‘Well, I took my eyes off her because someone was standing on the bus,’ but the kids were getting up trying to warn her that my son was stuck in the door,” she explained.
The mother says the school did not file an incident report or call her to say there had been an accident.
She says more should have been done, especially since doctors determined her son suffered a concussion in the incident.
“We entrust our children with the bus driver, school and their return in one piece. It was tough,” said Victorian.
She says the school ignored the incident and did not investigate thoroughly because the bus driver was never suspended.
She adds that her son will return to school for the first time on Tuesday, and she shares what happened to him in the hope that schools will take notice.
“It’s a lot, but that’s all I want is for everyone to see what happened and make sure it doesn’t happen again. Get some help or if she can’t control the whole bus, so someone else has to be on that bus,” she said.

News Ten has contacted the school twice, although we have not yet received a response from the administration regarding this incident.
