Livingston 2 – 1 Dundee U

Livingston moved up to fourth in the Scottish Premiership after an own goal from late Ryan Edwards handed the Lions a deserved win over Dundee United.

Edwards hit a Nicky Devlin cross into his own net in the 83rd minute as the home side came from behind to take all three points.

Liam Smith put the visitors ahead after just two minutes before Scott Pittman equalized in the 23rd minute.

Livingston created chance after chance on either side of the break and finally got his reward late.

In a high-octane start to the game, the visitors took the lead after just two minutes through Smith.

Tony Watt made a low pass into the box and Smith reacted quickest to stab the ball home to score his first goal of the season.

It was to be Watt’s last significant involvement as the striker limped off after just 13 minutes, with Nicky Clarke coming on.

Livingston equalized in the 23rd minute thanks to an excellent strike from Pittman. Bruce Anderson chose not to shoot inside the box and clipped the ball for his teammate.

Pittman controlled the heavy pass before firing a half-volley past Benjamin Siegrist from 12 yards out.

Livingston gained confidence after scoring and should have had another when Ayo Obileye headed Alan Forrest’s corner from just above.

On the other side, Ilmari Niskanen aimed a tame header at Max Stryjek.

But it was the Lions who finished the half stronger, creating countless chances.

Forrest curled a weak effort just beyond the far post from the 18-yard line before Devlin hit a tame shot on Siegrist.

Anderson then fired an effort as the home side increased the pressure.

Livingston kept coming early in the second half and went close again through Pittman.

Anderson fired in a low cross and a tense Pittman got a touch from inside the penalty area, but Siegrist blocked.

United manager Tam Courts has made a double change in a bid to help his side gain a foothold in the game, with the arrivals of Chris Mochrie and Scott McMann.

United at least created a rare chance when Clark latched onto Calum Butcher’s pass inside the box, but with the angle against him crushed his effort into the side netting.

Forrest was subsequently twice disallowed by Siegrist as the home side continued to press for a winner.
