St Johnstone won the Scottish League Cup for the first time in 137 years of history as first-half header Shaun Rooney sealed a 1-0 victory over Livingston at Hampden Park.

The towering right-back restrained John Guthrie to propel a header into the bottom corner, past Robbie McCrorie’s desperate dive from Craig Conway’s corner, much to the delight of manager Callum Davidson.

It was Rooney’s fifth goal of the campaign, including three in that competition, including one against Hibernian in the semifinals, which led to St Johnstone calling him ‘Bellshill Cafu’ on their Twitter account.

Although Livingston was seven points ahead of the Saints with one game underway in the Scottish Premiership table, they were second best throughout the contest, failing to seriously test Zander Clark in goal.
