Liverpool’s FA Cup win over Man City sees them produce more with Ibrahima Konate extending his record, Thiago reaching another cup final and the club scoring another treble
It looks like Liverpool are setting a new record every time they play, and in their current form, every time they win a game.
In the club’s 3-2 FA Cup semi-final success against Manchester City, more impressive statistics were achieved, and another could be on the way thanks to an unprecedented four-fold.
In an exhilarating affair at Wembley Stadium, the Reds took a three-goal lead thanks to an emphatic header from Ibrahima Konate and a brace from Sadio Mane.
Second-half goals from Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva gave Pep Guardiola’s side hope.
But despite a nervy ending, Liverpool have booked their place in the final where they will face either Chelsea or Crystal Palace on May 14.
And by securing their place at the showpiece event, the Reds have now become the first team in history to play in the League Cup final and the FA Cup final for the third time in the same season. .
According to OptaJoe, the other two occasions came in the 2000/01 season and the 2011/12 season.
At the first opportunity, the Reds beat Birmingham City in the League Cup and Arsenal in the FA Cup.
Ten years ago it was Cardiff City in the League Cup, which they won on penalties, and Chelsea, where they were beaten 2-1.

Domestic success eluded the League Cup record holders for many years, but this season they got their hands on the trophy by beating Thomas Tuchel’s side on penalties.
They now hope to do the same against the Blues or the Eagles.

He was on target at Wembley for a third game in a row, having found the net against Benfica in both Champions League quarter-finals.
But the most remarkable achievement is that he has yet to taste defeat to the Reds.
22 games he started or substituted, and won 18 and only made four.
Certainly a good omen, he and Liverpool fans will hope this record continues.
Spanish maestro Thiago, meanwhile, is set to taste another cup final.
For the past five seasons, Thiago reached the DFB-Pokal in 2017/18, when his Bayern side lost 3-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Happier success would follow the next two campaigns as he got his hands on the trophy when the German giants beat RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 and 4-2 in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
In his first season at Anfield, no success would present itself, but that didn’t turn out to be the case this season.
He unfortunately had a mix of injuries on the way to the Carabao Cup final and was also ruled out in the last match.
But that wasn’t the case in the FA Cup, where Thiago helped the Reds find their way back to Wembley, after putting in a superb performance against Man City.
Because of that, he’s now reached the finale in four of the last five seasons.
Liverpool are on the hunt for more trophies, and both Thiago and Konate will be key as they plan to lift more silverware in the coming weeks.
