Liverpool XI vs Aston Villa: Confirmed squad news, expected line-up and latest injuries for Premier League game

The Brazilian striker has missed each of the last six games in all competitions with a foot injury sustained in the FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City last month.

Firmino stepped up his recovery and traveled with his teammates to Villarreal last week but did not feature in the Champions League final second leg.

He was also left out of the squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham at Anfield, although he has continued training and could be available to face Villa.

Speaking to reporters at his pre-match press conference on Monday, Jurgen Klopp said Firmino was getting “closer and closer” to a return to action.

“But the medical service sometimes makes it easier. We’ll see,” the Liverpool boss said. “Bobby Firmino has been training so it’s a decision for tomorrow.”

Klopp faces a dilemma when it comes to selecting his squad at Villa Park.

With their four-time prospect having taken a major hit against Spurs, Liverpool must beat Steven Gerrard’s side to keep the pressure on leaders Manchester City, who travel to Wolves on Wednesday.

However, Klopp’s men sometimes looked up to snuff against Tottenham and the German has the small question of the FA Cup final showdown with Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday to consider.

It seems likely there could be changes, with the likes of Naby Keita, Diogo Jota and Joel Matip all candidates to freshen up the starting XI.

Widespread changes look unlikely despite a gap of just four days with the FA Cup showpiece, although Joe Gomez, Kostas Tsimikas, Curtis Jones, Divock Origi and James Milner are among other suitable reserve options if Klopp decides to call on them.

Liverpool predicted XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Matip, Robertson; Fabinho, Thiago, Keita; Mane, Jota, Diaz
