Liverpool would be the best team in English history if they won four times, claims Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has claimed that this Liverpool side would be the best team in English football history if they manage to win the treble. Liverpool cruised to a 2-0 victory over Villarreal in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday.

Liverpool are on course to complete a historic quadruple this season as they aim to claim supremacy in domestic and European competitions. The Merseyside club have already claimed Carabao Cup glory after beating chelsea in the final of the competition and Jurgen Klopp hopes to guide his side to success in the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League.

The English giants faced Villarreal in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday and emerged unscathed with a 2-0 win over the Spaniards. Liverpool will be hoping to play their place in the final when they travel to Spain for the second leg as they look to maintain their advantage after the draw.

The English side are neck and neck with Manchester City in a heated league title chase with the Merseyside club just one point away with six games remaining and have already booked their place in the FA Cup final in May after beating City in the semi-finals of the competition.

Former United great Ferdinand has praised this Liverpool side and admitted they have all the tools to pull off a historic treble.

“They are the best Liverpool team I have ever seen. They are relentless with and without the ball. It’s the way they press teams, the energy, the effort and the application, you marvel . [the quadruple] must be the goal. They will set the goal. If they succeed, they are immortal, they are above anyone who has played the game in this country. Whether they will succeed remains to be seen. But they are ticking boxes along the way at the moment,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
