Liverpool cruised to an important 2-0 Premier League win over Arsenal on Wednesday to keep the pressure on league leaders Manchester City. The win helped the Reds close the gap on Cityzens to just one point after 29 matches.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are chasing an unprecedented quadruple in the final stretch of the season. They next face Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday March 20.
Today’s roundup includes transfer talks over Alexander Isak, Aurelien Tchouameni and more. Without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the key stories surrounding the Reds as of March 18, 2022.
Alexander-Arnold ruled out of Liverpool FA Cup clash
Liverpool will be without Trent Alexander-Arnold for their FA Cup quarter-final clash against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The full-back has been chosen by England manager Gareth Southgate for the upcoming friendlies at the end of this month. He is also about to miss them.
Klopp told reporters at a press conference:
“Trent came out with a hamstring. He can’t be part of England either – not good news, we’ll see how long that takes. [It’s] tricky, now we’ll see how long it will take but of course it’s…replacing Trent is difficult, but possible.”
With Alexander-Arnold out indefinitely, James Milner or Joe Gomez could replace the right-back for the Reds against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Klopp hasn’t ruled out the possibility of playing an academy youngster at right-back as well.
Liverpool join race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni
Liverpool are expected to compete with Manchester United and Real Madrid for Monaco midfielder Aurélien Tchouameni.
After adding some freshness to their attack in the January transfer window, it’s likely Liverpool will strengthen their midfield this summer.
The Reds failed to replace Gini Wijnaldum last summer but managed his absence well.
Tchouameni has been compared to fellow countryman N’Golo Kante due to his tenacious performances in midfield. He has made 26 appearances for Monaco in the French league so far this season.
Liverpool ready to make €70m bid to sign Isak
Alexander Isak is on Liverpool’s radar and the Reds are preparing a €70m bid for the Swedish striker.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Sociedad want a €90m fee but it remains to be seen how they will react to Liverpool’s drop in offer for their striker.
Isak was linked with a move to Arsenal in January but remained in Spain as Arsenal could not guarantee Champions League football for next season.
If the Reds sign Isak, he will directly replace Roberto Firmino, who will have just one year left on his contract in July.
Isak has made 23 La Liga appearances this term and scored four times in the process.
