Liverpool have beaten Leeds to the signing of 16-year-old Celtic starlet Ben Doak for around £600,000 compensation

Liverpool secured the services of much-loved teenager Ben Doak from Celtic for compensation of around £600,000.

The 16-year-old was linked with a move to Anfield for weeks and has now secured his move to Merseyside.

The winger is considered to be one of the brightest talents to progress from the Celtic youth academy.

Earlier this week, Doak scored a hat-trick for Scotland’s Under-17s and helped them qualify for the European Championships.

Athletic report that Celtic have collected £600.00 compensation for the player who was yet to sign a professional contract with Parkhead.

Bhoys manager Ange Postecoglou was a huge Doak fan, having made his senior debut on the bench against Dundee United earlier this campaign.

Doak also made a three-minute appearance in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Rangers in February.

The winger, who can also play as a full-back, had been lined up for a big future at Celtic Park.

But he has decided to join Liverpool, although he won’t be able to play any games until next season.

It’s a similar move to the one that saw the Reds land Harvey Elliott from Fulham, who has gone on to feature for the first time on numerous occasions this season.

The Athletic report adds that Leeds were keen to land Doak and had appeared to offer him more lucrative terms, but the Scottish youth international’s heart was set on a move to Anfield.

Meanwhile, Doak is set to be joined at Liverpool’s AXA academy next season by 15-year-old Trent Kone-Doherty, who currently plays for Derry City.

Kone-Doherty has several suitors but the Belfast Telegraph reports that Klopp’s side are clearly in the lead for his signature.
