The 23-year-old Ajax’s big money was confirmed on Tuesday, as Martinez reunites with his former boss. Arsenal were heavily linked with the defender earlier in the window, but United have their man.
It has already been a strong start for Ten Hag at United, with a positive pre-season tour of Australia seeing Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial show impressive form.
Martinez knows better than anyone at the club what to expect from the manager, and the defender had nothing but praise for Ten Hag and the impact he had on his career at Ajax.
“I spent three years with him at Ajax and I know his style of play,” Martinez told the club’s official website.
“With him I’ve improved a lot, to be honest. He’s here in Manchester now, so again the opportunity was there and for sure he’s very important in my [career].
“[He is] very intense, certainly. Good soccer. Winner mentality, you know? It is the most important. Each player must have things clear. I think it’s very clear too.
“How has it helped me improve? In how we can fully understand the situations, the decisions inside the pitch. He is there in every detail.
