Lionel Messi urged to snub move to ‘David Beckham circus’ amid Inter Miami links, with PSG contract countdown and Barcelona interested in Camp Nou return

Lionel Messi has been warned to resist MLS proposals if he still considers himself a serious player by Simon Jordan.

Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends in June and speculation over his future has already started.

Former club Barcelona have made no secret of their desire to see Messi return to the club after his shock exit in 2021 but will need to offload his squad members to have any hope of re-signing his legend.

PSG are believed to be preparing a blockbuster bid to entice the star to sign with the French champions until 2025, while David Beckham’s Inter Miami have become the latest club to throw their hats into the ring for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

But Jordan has warned Messi against swapping European football for MLS, insisting the Argentine can still play in the top leagues in the world.

“He’s 35 – two years younger than [Cristiano] Ronaldo. If he thinks he’s still a serious footballer, he’s not going to America, is he?” Jordan told talkSPORT.

“He’s a genius footballer and like everything, everything is running its course so I would be disappointed to see him land in Planet Hollywood, in Beckham’s circus.

“He is arguably the greatest player in the world at a stage in his career where he should be able to play in the elite leagues.

“So go to America – I don’t know what that says.”

Sources close to the star have confirmed that Messi and his family have settled in the French capital and he is happy at PSG.

His first season in Ligue 1 didn’t go as planned as he got used to his new environment. Messi scored 11 goals in a topsy-turvy season that saw him lift the Ligue 1 title but crash out against old foes Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16.

This season has been a different matter altogether with the Argentine enjoying a fresh approach under new coach Christophe Galtier.

So far this season, he has registered 12 goals and 13 assists in 17 games.

Despite the return to form, Jordan does not consider Messi’s move to the Parc des Princes a success after his 17-year professional career at Camp Nou.

Jordan added: “Let’s be fair, he didn’t set the world on fire at PSG – he played 38 league games and scored 13 goals. That’s not Lionel Messi-esque is it?

“Those aren’t the stats we associated with him.

“It’s a decision born out of economic need. He went to PSG with great fanfare and I don’t think the fanfare was rewarded in terms of success.

“I don’t think his trip to Paris was a success by his standards.”
