“Left our troops like sitting ducks”

Republicans blasted President Joe Biden after the U.S. military announced that three American soldiers were killed and 25 injured in a drone attack in Jordan on Sunday.

“Joe Biden has emboldened Iran for years by tolerating attacks on our troops, bribing the ayatollahs with billions of dollars, and appeasing them endlessly. He left our troops as easy targets and now three are dead and dozens injured, unfortunately, as I have predicted for months,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) said in a statement.

“On behalf of Arkansans, I extend my deepest condolences to the families of our brave fallen warriors. May God comfort them as he welcomes their loved ones into his arms. And may God heal their injured comrades quickly and completely,” he added.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said the Biden administration’s policy of deterrence against Iran “has failed miserably.”

“There have been more than 100 attacks against US forces in the region. Iran remains undeterred,” he said, adding: “I send my condolences to the families of our fallen heroes in Jordan. I also wish a full recovery to the injured. Our forces in Jordan and Syria are there to protect the American homeland and provide stability in a troubled region. Their service and sacrifice will always be appreciated. They are real heroes.

On Sunday afternoon, US Central Command announced that three US service members were killed and 25 injured by a one-way attack drone that struck a military base in northeastern Jordan, near the Syrian border. .

Iranian-mandated forces have targeted US troops in the region since the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel on October 7, which killed more than 1,200 people.

There have been more than 150 attacks on US troops in Iraq and Syria since mid-October, leaving at least one person seriously injured. Sunday’s attack was the first time U.S. troops had been killed in such an attack in recent months.

Cotton and Graham, both military veterans, called for retaliation.

Graham called on Biden to strike significant targets in Iran, not only in retaliation for the deaths of our forces, but also as a deterrent against future aggression.

“The only thing the Iranian regime understands is force. Until they pay the price for their infrastructure and personnel, attacks on American troops will continue,” he said, adding:

Secretary Austin’s efforts to deter aggression against our forces in the region have failed miserably. I have long lost confidence in Biden’s national security team to deter Iran. If they don’t change their policy now, more U.S. military personnel in the region will pay the price. Strike Iran now. Hit them hard.

Cotton called for “devastating military retaliation” against “Iranian terrorist forces” in Iran and across the Middle East.

“The only response to these attacks must be devastating military retaliation against Iranian terrorist forces, both in Iran and across the Middle East. Anything less would confirm that Joe Biden is a coward, unworthy to be commander in chief,” Cotton said.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) also called for retaliation. “Target Tehran”, Cornyn replied on X.

“It was only a matter of time before Biden’s appeasement strategy toward Iran resulted in the deaths of American service members. Tragic and preventable,” represents Rep. Mike Waltz. concluded.
