MEXICO CITY (AP) – A lawyer shot dead his client in a courtroom in northern Mexico on Wednesday, then fled to an adjoining room and killed himself with a gunshot to the head.
Prosecutors for Northern Sonora State initially said the two were both lawyers and related.
He later clarified that the first victim, 27, was a nephew of the gunman, 65, in addition to being his client.
The state attorney’s office attributed the murder to “a family law case” and said that “the two apparently had a fight.” The court apparently had no metal detectors in place.
Family courts in Mexico deal with matters such as custody, divorce, and alimony.
