Lauren Conrad Clearly Tells Kristin Cavallari Her ‘Biggest Regret’ About ‘Laguna Beach’

Let’s go back… to the beginning, when “Laguna Beach” tore friends, families and our great nation apart because of the eternal division between Team Kristin and Team LC.

Almost 20 years ago and many more in Ste-PHEN, MTV first presented the reality series following a group of high school students, including Kristin Cavallari and Lauren Conrad, who have been locked in a season-long (and heavily edited) feud over a boy named Stéphane Colletti.

For the first time ever, the three former co-stars sat down and unpacked their love triangle on Cavallari and Colletti’s “Back to the Beach” rewatch podcast.

“Watching it was way worse than I imagined,” Conrad said, noting that she had never seen a single full episode of the show. “It was really cringeworthy.”

Ranking highest on the cringe scale for Conrad calls Cavallari a “bitch” for dancing on the bar during the show’s infamous first-season trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

“My biggest regret was, watching it, I called you a bitch. I’m so sorry,” Conrad told Cavallari, who said she accepted the apology.

“Looking at him, it was like, ‘Oh, I couldn’t believe I did that.’ Because I think where I am now, I would never call another woman that, or a girl,” Conrad continued. “And that was, for me, the most embarrassing moment. I was like, ‘Oh disgusting.’

Cavallari regretted calling out her former co-star by the same name in a different episode, admitting she also “said some really stupid stuff.”

She added: “When I look at it now, I’m like, ‘I wasn’t confident at all. In fact, I was so insecure. And I’ve come after you in many ways. And I’m really sorry for that.

While the two admitted there was a kernel of truth to their feud, they agreed that the cameras “kept him alive and made him look a whole lot worse than he ever would have been.” While MTV described Colletti having a concurrent romantic relationship with both women, he insists they never overlapped.

“At no time, any time we were together, you know, would I take you out that way,” Colletti said of her true romance with Cavallari at the time. “And they really paint [it like] that’s what I do throughout the series – which I have a huge problem with.

During the show’s first season, Conrad actually had various other relationships, including a fling with fellow cast member Talan Torriero, which was never shown on camera.

“The funny thing is, I think Season 1 is our last year? I had several boyfriends during this time, so I feel so bad for them if they ever watch this! she revealed.

“Laguna Beach” concluded its run in 2006 after three seasons ― the final episode featured neither Conrad nor Cavallari. The two, however, would end up starring in “The Hills,” a spin-off that initially followed Conrad’s life in Los Angeles. Cavallari then replaced Conrad midway through the show’s fifth season, but the two never appeared on camera together.

Conrad has since started various businesses and started a family with her husband, William Tell. The two reside in Laguna Beach, Calif., with their two sons.

Cavallari, meanwhile, returned to reality TV with her E! “Very Cavallari” series, which ran for three seasons and featured her then-husband, soccer star Jay Cutler. The former couple, who share three children, have since divorced, announcing their separation in 2020 after 10 years together.
