Latest Israel-Hamas war news: Gaza cease-fire talks continue as Israel strikes Rafah

The Israeli military said Tuesday it had taken “operational control” of the Gaza side of the Rafah crossing with Egypt. Wael Abu Omar, a Gaza border official, said travel and the flow of aid into the Gaza Strip “had completely stopped.” Hamas said it accepted a Qatari-Egyptian ceasefire proposal, and Israel said it would send meditators to negotiate, renewing hopes for a pause in fighting even as Israel s is committed to continuing its military operation in Rafah.
