Lara Trump tells ‘smart’ DeSantis not to challenge ex-pres

Lara Trump has pleaded with “very smart” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to delay her long-awaited race for the White House to give her father-in-law, former President Donald Trump, a clear shot at being nominated as a Republican in 2024.

Eric Trump’s wife, now a Fox News contributor, said it would be “nicer” for DeSantis to wait until 2028 while apparently conceding that, as The Post stated on its front page of November 9, the Governor of Florida is “DeFuture” of the GOP.

“I think Ron DeSantis is very smart,” Lara Trump told Sky News Australia on Sunday.

“Look, he’s a young man. There will be plenty of opportunities for him in the future…to run for president,” she added of the 44-year-old governor, who was re-elected by a landside for a second four-year term. head of the Sunshine State.

“I think Ron DeSantis is very smart…he’s a young guy,” Lara Trump said of DeSantis, whom The Post recently called “DeFuture.”

“And I think he’s a smart enough guy to know that it would be great to have all the support of this party, of the America First movement, MAGA – whatever you want to call it – fully behind him in 2028 that maybe, you know, fracturing it in 2024,” Lara Trump continued.

As well as giving 76-year-old Trump an easier ride, it would also prevent the former president from resorting to his usual vicious tactics, she suggested.

“I can tell you these primaries are getting very messy and very raw. We’ve been through this before,” Lara Trump said, days after her stepfather publicly lost his temper over his likely challenger.

“Then wouldn’t it be nicer for [DeSantis] – and I think he knows this – wait until 2028? she says.

Lara Trump also suggested that without DeSantis in the running, her stepfather likely would have an easy race for the nomination, laughing at suggestions that he was losing support from Republicans blaming him for disastrous midterm results.

She insisted it was no different from the party bigwigs who initially opposed Trump in 2016 before rallying behind him once it became clear he would be the nominee.

“They know he has what it takes to not only win the White House, but to do amazing things for this country,” she said.

“So yeah, absolutely, I think the party would be behind him and I think they know the American people, as a whole, are behind him,” she suggested.

While giving her predictions, Lara Trump also teased her stepfather’s expected announcement at an event at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday that he’s running in 2024.

“Hopefully it’s a very historic event, if he does indeed decide to run again and that’s the announcement we hear on Tuesday,” she said.
