PSG boss Christophe Galtier has backed Kylian Mbappe despite the Frenchman’s apparent anger against Montpellier and admitted the striker is still not fully fit. The 23-year-old suffered a difficult comeback against Montpellier as he missed a penalty and was eventually substituted.
While the 2022/23 season League 1 The season has already started and is underway, Kylian Mbappe only made his first appearance in the league on Saturday against Montpellier. The Frenchman missed the Parisians’ opener for various reasons and so much was expected as the 23-year-old started PSG’s second game of the season. However, things didn’t go to plan as Mbappe missed a penalty in the first half then appeared to throw a tantrum when he didn’t receive the ball in the second.
Footage of the second incident has since gone viral as Vitinha ignored the Frenchman’s pleas for a pass, which left Mbappe visibly frustrated as he stopped his run and turned around. Yet despite all this, Christophe Galiter played down the incident and instead revealed that the forward was not fully fit and blamed the incident on that. Not only that, the PSG boss added that it will take time for Mbappe to reach full fitness and that’s when the world will see him at his best.
“Kylian played his last game three weeks ago so I knew it was going to be tough physically for him. He’s a competitor. He wants to be good and he wants to be good fast, but a top footballer level is not sure and like that; it takes a bit of time to regain 100% of his athletic ability,” Mbappe said, Goal reported.
“When he’s at 100 per cent, he’ll make the difference even more. These are players who like to score, who want to score and who attack. It’s a bit normal that he’s disappointed to be a bit short physically compared to to his teammates.”
