Kyle Rittenhouse funds media lawsuit – RT World News

Acquitted Kenosha shooter says he wants to hold people accountable for smearing him

An Illinois teenager who rose to national prominence in the United States during his trial for using a gun against protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, says he was funding a legal campaign against people who , according to him, had soiled it. He announced it during his appearance on Fox News on Monday.

Before, during and in some cases after his trial, Kyle Rittenhouse was portrayed by some speakers as a white supremacist murderer protected by an unfair justice system. He was acquitted of all charges and became the poster child for conservative commentators in the United States to showcase the perceived liberal bias that dominates the American media landscape.

The Media Accountability Project launched by Rittenhouse will continue “politicians, celebrities, [and] athletes,” for tarnishing his reputation, he told host Tucker Carlson.

The young man, who is now 19, has named two people who should soon hear from his lawyers. One is Whoopi Goldberg, the co-host of ABC’s “The View” talk show. Another is Cenk Uygur, from The Young Turks YouTube channel. Rittenhouse claimed that both called him a murderer, even after his acquittal. Neither would immediately comment on the allegations.

A music video that Rittenhouse job on social media to announce the launch of his campaign showed a sample of the negative coverage of his case by American media. The experts quoted had called it a “white supremacist” “probably a domestic terrorist”, a “militia aspirant” and other names. The clip culminated with then-President Donald Trump’s infamous claim that the media was “the enemy of the people”.

Rittenhouse shot three men, two fatally, during a riot in Kenosha in August 2020. The riot occurred amid a larger Black Lives Matter protest against racial injustice in America, which has made the matter highly politicized. A jury returned a not-guilty verdict last November, agreeing the teenager acted in self-defence.

Goldberg reacted to his show’s acquittal by saying that “even all the excuses in the world do [sic!] doesn’t change the fact that three people were shot, two people were murdered – to me that’s murder, I’m sorry.

It was not immediately clear which of Uygur’s remarks about him Rittenhouse had in mind when he made his accusation.

Virtually the entire chain of events that led to Rittenhouse shooting three people was caught on camera, with footage available to the public long before the trial began. Some foreign media covering Rittenhouse’s trial have falsely claimed that the three men he shot were black, which critics see as evidence of the biased nature of US media reporting. Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber, whom Rittenhouse killed, and Gaige Grosskreutz, whom he injured, were all white.

While freed by the criminal court, Rittenhouse faces a civil case from the family of one of the people he killed. Anthony Huber attacked him with a skateboard after a foot chase, and Rittenhouse shot him in response. The Huber family filed a $10 million notice of claim in December and added their son’s killer to the list of defendants last month.
