Kojima Productions’ Clumsy Coverup Helps Confirm Overdose Leak

After Tom Henderson from published an article reporting the existence of a new Hideo Kojima game in development under the title Overdosehe says Kojima Productions reached out, asking him to take it down (via Kotaku). Henderson refused. In conversation with KotakuHenderson said the request came with an offer to work with him when they could share more, likely once the game was ready to be officially announced.

Henderson’s report goes on to highlight details of the leaked images he received from the game which apparently feature Death Stranding actress Margaret Qualley. Henderson portrays Qualley, who played the bespectacled mom in Death Stranding, running down a dark hallway with a flashlight. There is a jump scare, then the screen changes to text that says “GAMEOVER”. Henderson later tweeted that his interaction with Kojima Productions was not antagonistic and that they were “very understanding all things considered”. The company has yet to release an official statement on this.

With this supposed leak, this is the second time that a joint of Hideo Kojima has been revealed before time. Last May, Norman Reedus, star of Death Strandingappeared to confirm the existence of its sequel in an interview with Leo magazine.

“It takes a lot of work,” Reedus said of Death Stranding. “And then the game came out, and it just won all these awards, and it was huge, so we just started the second game.”

Both of these leaks coincide with when Kojima’s best friend Geoff Keighley is about to begin his not-quite-E3 Summer Game Fest event which will run from June 9-12. Kojima is not scheduled to attend the event, and Keighley himself urged fans to “manage their expectations” in the face of big surprise reveals. Then again, with Kojima’s quirkiness, you can never tell.
