Kohli’S Hundred, Bhuvneshwar’s Five-Wicket Haul helps India close campaign with win

Time for the post-match presentation

Mohammad Nabi | Afghan Captain: It was really difficult to face Pakistan the other night, a close match and immediately the next match is against India, totally difficult. We weren’t mentally prepared for this game. We did our best to prepare but the boys weren’t mentally ready. Today we tried our best, with the way Kl and Kohli started we also lost catches and at bat we didn’t expect so much swing.

KL Rahul | captain of india: Coming back after a big injury and an operation, I realized that playing the last games was not as easy as you think. I was looking forward to coming to play but obviously finding the same touch or the same rhythm was not going as easily as I thought. It’s an apprenticeship for me as a player, happy to have been able to spend time in the middle and I started to feel good. In this format, when you hit the first six in the middle, it gives you confidence, I think the Hong Kong game, I got a free kick and even though I didn’t time it as well as I could, I I still hit the ball out of the ground and it felt good. Going into the game against Pakistan I felt a bit better and some away shots gave me confidence, I’m slowly picking up the pace. The result was disappointing. Ideally, we would have wanted to play the final and challenge ourselves. We entered this tournament wanting to play the final and win the big tournament but it didn’t work our way, we take the positives. We have been challenged and it is time to sit down and reflect. Losing is not great but sometimes you have to be part of the journey, our vision is the World Cup and I hope the learnings will help us for the World Cup.

India’s Virat Kohli wins player of the match award for unbeaten 100

Virat Kohli | player of the match: First of all, I’m grateful for how the day went today. The time away from the game gave me a good opportunity to sit back and observe a lot about myself. I mentioned a special person – Anushka – who supported me during these difficult times and I mentioned her because she saw the absolutely raw side of me throughout these months. She was the one who put things into perspective for me, kept giving me the right kind of advice, a vision to move forward, and I came back into the system as a relaxed person. It was just about enjoying the game, understanding the game and what God has given you. Today was building the final games, I came out of my skin to be honest and surprised myself. What surprised me was that my 60s became failures; quite shocking to me, beating pretty well and contributing but it just doesn’t feel like enough. I can’t really identify anything with anyone because I said that God has blessed me with good things in the past and that’s why I’m in this position where those things can be said. I have absolutely no shame in admitting that God blesses us all with whatever is in our destiny, we just have to work hard. So I went back to the drawing board, came back fresh and excited. The team environment had great communication with me, kept me relaxed and kept my perspective good. When I came back there wasn’t a lot of information coming to me, they just said bat and it was about getting into the pleasure space. I had many suggestions, many advices came my way; people were telling me i was doing this wrong, this wrong, i selected all the best time videos i had; same initial movement, same approach to the ball and it was just what was going through my head, I wasn’t able to explain it to anyone.
