Kodak Black was arrested on Friday for drug possession and trafficking in Florida.
The rapper, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, was jailed Friday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he is awaiting a bail hearing.
The Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement that troopers pulled over Black because he was driving a purple SUV with window tints that appeared darker than the legal limit.
They detected the smell of marijuana, then searched the SUV and found a small clear bag containing 31 white pills and nearly $75,000 in cash. The tablets were later identified as oxycodone.
KODAK BLACK RAPPER PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO WEAPONS CHARGES
Black’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, caught on Twitter Friday and said they plan to “resolve the issue quickly” once Black is on bail.
“Never judge a case based on an arrest,” he wrote. “There are always additional facts and circumstances that give rise to a defense, particularly in this case. We will secure bail for him today and move forward with the expeditious resolution of the case.”
In January 2020, then-President Donald Trump granted black clemency for a three-year federal prison sentence the rapper received for falsifying documents used to purchase weapons. By the time his sentence was commuted, Black had served about half the time.
