Kodai Senga Feels Tightness in Triceps at Start of Rehab

NEW YORK (AP) — Mets pitcher Kodai Senga suffered a strained right triceps during his minor league rehab start Saturday for Triple-A Syracuse. While Senga doesn’t consider the problem serious, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said it will end his regular season.

Senga could still contribute if the Mets reach the playoffs, but that will depend on his recovery.

The right-hander has made just one start this season. He missed the entire first half of the season with a strained posterior shoulder capsule and resulting complications, including a triceps issue. Senga returned on July 26 to pitch 5 1/3 innings against the Braves, but strained his left calf in that game and has been rehabbing it since.

Senga was the Mets’ top pitcher last year, with a 2.98 ERA in 29 starts. He is under team control for three more seasons at $15 million per year.
