Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), now a CNN contributor, said Tuesday on “Anderson Cooper 360” that his former U.S. House colleague Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) was “clumsy in person”.
Cooper said, “It was interesting to see the rise and fall of DeSantis before he announced his candidacy.”
Kinzinger said, “He’s not necessarily the best campaigner. I think it’s starting to become obvious. It’s something I said at the beginning. If you look at the history of the primaries, at least on the Republican side, whoever is the favorite right now never ends up being the candidate. ”
Cooper asked, “Congressman, you served with him. How was he?”
Kinzinger said, “Look, it’s hard to get along one-on-one. He’s clumsy in person.
Cooper asked, “You say he’s hard to get along on his own and he’s not a great campaigner in a group? What’s left? »
Kinzinger said, “When he goes in front of the press and owns the press and tries to push back, that’s very beneficial in a Republican primary. I’m just talking about my experience with him. I got on well with him. But I was surprised when he was made governor of Florida. He doesn’t strike me as someone who is going to go out and work the rope. Donald Trump wasn’t either, but he was able to bring a different energy that Ron DeSantis can’t.”
