Kindergartener Writes School Story About Mom Shooting Dad

A Tennessee woman has been arrested after her daughter wrote a story in her kindergarten class about her mother shooting her father during a fight at home.
Kaydra Johnson, 28, was arrested Monday by Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies and charged with four counts of reckless endangerment for allegedly firing a gun at their Arlington home while their four children were inside, WREG reported.
Police say they learned of the domestic violence after a Donelson Elementary school counselor notified the state Department of Children’s Services of potential abuse after the girl wrote a story for the class on a fight between his parents which ended in gunfire.
The story paints a vivid picture of the dispute.
“Mom and dad had a fight. Mom told him to go out because he smoked too much. Dad punched mom in the eye. Mom said look what you did,” the daughter wrote.
“Mom took the gun from under the bed. I was in the living room, and my sisters and brother were in the bedroom. The mother pointed the gun at the father and fired three times. The bullets hit the wall My mom told her to sleep in her car in the driveway and not come back or she would shoot her again.
When police arrived at Johnson’s home, they found her locked outside her home while her children, aged 1 and 4, were inside, police told WREG.
Police forced open the garage door and firefighters checked on the two children, who appeared to be fine after spending an hour and a half alone inside.
Deputies noted several bullet holes in the walls of the living room, bedroom and hallway.
Johnson confessed to shooting her husband at least twice, but told police it was only after he entered the house without his permission and then hit and beat her with a vacuum cleaner.
Police said she had a cut and bruise around her right eye.
Johnson said three of her children were on the couch and the fourth was in the bathroom when she shot. Her husband was not injured.
Two firearms were seized from the home.
Two of his children were taken into custody with their grandmother and two others with their aunt.
Johnson was released from prison and is due in court on Feb. 23, WREG reported.
