Kim Kardashian Explains Why She Wore Gray Sweater To 2024 Met Gala

Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala 2024 sweater is the talk of the town!

On Monday, May 6, Kardashian arrived on the red carpet of fashion’s biggest night draped in a cropped gray John Galliano sweater that covered the top of her Maison Margiela corset dress.

As she walked up the stairs on the carpet, Kardashian held her sweater tightly around her shoulders and didn’t take it off while she did interviews and posed for photos.

On social media, fans said they were confused about Kardashian’s fashion choice.

“GURL!! If you don’t take off that TJ Maxx sweater!” one person wrote on Instagram.

Another said: “I wonder if her dress was damaged and that’s why she wore that ugly cardigan to cover it up.”

A third wrote: “For some reason I feel like she’s not comfortable in this look. She doesn’t feel safe tonight.”

However, Kardashian revealed why she wore the cardigan during an interview with Vogue on the carpet.

The “Kardashians” star explained that she was trying to look like she was in a hurry after spending “the craziest night” of her life “in a garden.”

“And I ran out, grabbed my boyfriend’s sweater, put it on and had to go to work,” she added, laughing at the look she was going for . “My hair is all messy.”

Later, in a video shared to Vogue’s YouTube page on May 7, Kardashian revealed that the cardigan was definitely part of the dress’s initial design. She said her inspiration came from another Maison Margiela show that featured corsets and sweaters and showed Galliano’s sketch — with the gray sweater included.

She said her look was inspired by this year’s theme: “Sleeping Beauties: Awakening Fashion” and the “Garden of Time” dress code.

She explained that she and Galliano “kind of played with what we thought that theme meant.”

“Imagine having the best night of your life with the most magical person and you’re just in a garden. You overslept, you wake up after, literally, the best night of your life and I’m running out.. . ” she told the outlet. “My dress falls off because it was one of those nights and I just grab my boyfriend’s sweater to run away and get to where I need to be.”

She joked that she often rushes at the end of events to “get to the (school) carpool” the next morning.

“Real life happens,” she said. “Sometimes I put on yesterday’s makeup and it’s like that. But it’s like this, where you… just woke up after the night of my life in this secret garden.”

Fans were divided over her look, with many wondering why Kardashian’s waist is so small.

“Did we remove some of his ribs or something?!” one fan commented on Kardashian’s slim waist in the dress.

Another said: “Girl…kill. Where did you put all your internal organs???”

A third added: “Kimberly where is your chest.”

However, this isn’t the first time Kardashian has worn a form-fitting dress at the Met Gala. In 2019, she wore a bodycon Thierry Mugler dress at the haute couture event. In a video with Vogue at the time, she explained that the dress was so tight she could barely sit down.

“I can only sit halfway,” she said.

At the big 2022 event, she arrived in the dress that Marilyn Monroe wore to serenade President John F. Kennedy on his birthday in the 1960s.

She said during a red carpet interview that she lost 16 pounds to fit into the dress.

“I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and carbs, and just eat the cleanest vegetables and proteins,” she told Vogue.

“I didn’t starve myself, but I was very strict,” she said.

Dietitian Frances Largeman-Roth previously told TODAY.com that these practices “can reduce water weight” but are “not safe for everyone.”

“Using a sauna suit can lead to dehydration, which can cause a person to pass out,” she explained. “And these practices are definitely dangerous for anyone with heart problems or diabetes.
