Kim Kardashian allegedly damaged Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress

The owner of Marilyn Monroe’s famous crystal dress from 1962 said “great care [was] taken” to keep it before Kim Kardashian wore the dress to the 2022 Met Gala. The world’s largest private collection of Monroe items, however, implies that this is not the case.

The Marilyn Monroe Collection, in a series of Instagram posts on Monday, posted photos of damage allegedly discovered after Kardashian wore the dress in May.

The collection claims there are “some crystals missing and some left hanging by a thread” after the dress appeared.

The collection, on Instagram, tagged Ripley’s Believe It or Not, who bought the dress for $4.8 million in 2016 and shared her reviews.

“Was it worth it?” the account requested in a post.

“Without a doubt, the damage is extensive,” the account said in another post.

The collection, in a blog post, referred to visual artist ChadMichael Morrisette as the person who informed them of the alleged damage.

The post also refers to rips and tears on the back of the dress.

HuffPost has reached out to Morrisette as well as Ripley Entertainment for further comment.

Monroe wore the dress to President John F. Kennedy’s 45th birthday celebration, where she sang a sultry version of “Happy Birthday” to him in New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The dress hugged the actor perfectly, with its nude-colored fabric adorned with 2,500 rhinestones.

Kardashian, who switched to a replica dress after her red carpet appearance, told TV personality La La Anthony that she lost 16 pounds to fit into the dress.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not said in May that “preserving the historic dress” was a priority and there were no changes to the dress in preparation for the Met Gala.
