Killed Wilcox County Officer May Get Compensation Through Police Officers Act

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (AP) – The family of a retired Wilcox County MP who worked as a police officer may be the first person to receive compensation under a more state law change early this year.

The Alabama Officers Association said the survivors of Constable Madison “Skip” Nicholson could be compensated under a law passed earlier this year that included police officers as officers of the peace eligible for death benefits.

Nicholson, 78, was fatally injured and a deputy shot dead in a clash that left a suspect dead at Yellow Bluff. State Police say Nicholson died in the line of duty.
