UFC sensation Khamzat Chimaev seems to have secured his next fight inside the octagon.
The 11-0 welterweight with 10 finishes on his record last fought in a Fight of the Year contender against Gilbert Burns in April, but now he is targeting fights in Abu Dhabi in October.
While a fight against Nate Diaz in July was the UFC’s target, it didn’t materialize and now ‘Borz’ has turned his attention to Belal Muhammad.
Chimaev publicly called out Muhammad, ranked fifth in the division, promising to fight him if he agreed to leave his Palestinian flag at home.
The fighters are both devout Muslims, but all UFC fighters are barred from carrying their flags in the ring under new rules.
The Russian-born Swede, now ranked third after Burns’ victory, took to social media and told Muhammad: “I will fight you if you don’t take the Palestinian flag into battle.”
Muhammad replied, “Respect brother, I will also bring you a flag and we are both fighting for Palestine. I can no longer bring the flag into the battlefield even if I wanted to.
Chimaev replied quickly, as he usually does: “October, Abu Dhabi”.
