Khamzat Chimaev returns to training three days after UFC 273 ahead of potential fights with Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman

Khamzat Chimaev once again proved his elite-level mentality by returning to training just three days after his Fight of the Year contender at UFC 273.

The 27-year-old fought with Gilbert Burns in Jacksonville on Saturday night, picking up a decisive victory to lift himself to third in the welterweight rankings despite fasting Ramadan throughout the fight week.

A few days later, Chimaev opted to return to the gym to prepare for his next fight rather than put his feet up and relax after picking up his biggest win yet.

“The date is April 12. On April 9, we went to war. That’s why this guy is going to become a champion. That’s why, do you understand? That’s why this guy is going to become a champion,” the cameraman said as Chimaev lifted weights.

“After a war like that (he is) back to training in the gym. After a fucking war like that! We’ve been here since 8:30 and now it’s 9:30. We have another half-hour training. That’s why. Now you know. So fuck you if you don’t believe in us.

“Borz” made his first appearance in 2020 at “Fight Island” and picked up four easy wins to become a crowd favorite and one of the most exciting prospects in UFC history.

After taking his first serious step in competition, Chimaev can now look forward to fighting the best fighters in the UFC welterweight division.

170-pound champ Kamaru Usman is currently recovering after undergoing hand surgery, but is expected to return to action later this year.

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ will take on Birmingham-born fighter and longtime contender Leon Edwards, but a fight against Chimaev is surely at the forefront of his mind after UFC 273.

Before that, “The Wolf” is expected to fight Colby Covington.

“Chaos” is the number one ranked welterweight fighter and is currently back in the title hunt after suffering a second loss to Usman at UFC 268 in November.

FCThe former interim champion recently picked up a win over bitter rival Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272.

If Chimaev manages to get past Covington, he will surely have done enough to secure his shot on Usman.
