Belgium became the second team to reserve their place for the round of 16 of Euro 2020 with Kevin De Bruyne playing a leading role in a relentless victory over Denmark.

Players on both sides paid tribute to midfielder Christian Eriksen, who suffered cardiac arrest last week, on an emotional evening in Copenhagen.

The hosts produced a moving performance in the first half and entered the break with a goal after striker Yussuf Poulsen in the second minute.

Romelu Lukaku, Dries Merterns and Yannick Carrasco could not have any influence on the match in the first half.

But things quickly changed when De Bruyne came on, with Real Madrid outcast Eden Hazard as well.

First, the Man City midfielder received a cut from Lukaku, tokk a skillful and deadly touch before squaring it for Thorgan Hazard – who had the easy task of slapping at point blank range.

De Bruyne is now the only European player to have assisted a goal in each of the last four majors.

He also made eight assists for Belgium in major tournaments (World Cup & Euros); since the 2014 World Cup, without any European player providing more in the two competitions.

Responding to De Bruyne’s decisive winner, talkSPORT commentator Nigel Pearson said: “Belgium is in the lead. And who else could he be but this man Kevin De Bruyne with his 22nd goal for his country. Just awesome.

Co-commentator Matt Holland added, “On the bench he created one, he scored the other. Kevin De Bruyne is a technician.
