Kevin Costner defends four-part ‘Horizon: An American Saga’ at Cannes

CANNES, France — The applause didn’t stop as a camera projected Kevin Costner’s face onto the big screen at the Grand Théâtre Lumière as he wiped away tears.

He had just presented the first part of his four-chapter western opus, “Horizon: An American Saga”, at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday. It’s the culmination of an obsession with life on the American frontier that dates back to his directorial debut in 1990’s “Dances with Wolves” and continued throughout his recent five-season tenure as the breeder-patriarch of “Yellowstone.”
