Kevin Bacon says ‘Footloose’ director gave him valium for a big scene

Kevin Bacon’s feet didn’t disappoint him while filming his 1984 hit “Footloose” – but his nerves almost did. (Watch the interview above.)

The veteran actor recalled Wednesday on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” that he was so tense about the scene in which he is pleading with city council to allow the dancing that he broke into beehives.

Bacon said the escape was as if aliens were invading his midsection. So, on the day of filming, director Herbert Ross came up with a very 80s solution.

“The director told me, ‘You’re just nervous. Here I will give you half a Valium. ′ So he gave me drugs and I calmed down and performed the scene and the hives were gone.

And they broke a movement. And it was good.
